Default Video Game Collaboration

SUBMISSIONS OPEN

Well, I'm a bit of a noname here, but I've always wanted to make a pack and whatnot, so here goes.

6key or 4key

This pack is supposed to be a spiritual successor to all those video game megapacks and other such things. Here are da rules:

  1. You're only allowed to submit things from a video game ost, remixes or trailers.
  2. You may not submit anything from a BMS game.
  3. You must have one single or solo chart.
  4. Anything goes after that really. Feel free to step Touhou, japanese games, western games, and whatever else you want.

So this pack, if it gets submissions, might work like a filter for some other packs. If it doesn't, well whatever, I'm ok with that. I'll be the only judge, unless I get submissions and someone wants to help.

Anyone who doesn't have graphics will be provided some. I'm very willing to do graphics for anyone who submits. Also, any files that are from other packs are ok too, just as long as they follow the rules.

Depending on how many submissions I get, if any, this could be a minipack or a full pack. All that matters is I get SOME files. Remember, you can submit either 4key or 6key, either is fine, but I'd really like 4key charts, though any good solo chart is cool too. I'm just hoping to get maybe a little response before FFR Winter opens up.

Send file here: vgcsubs@gmail.com

Ristar? hot damn
I like so many of the songs in that game

I'll probably step the Jun Senoue remix of Angel Island for this pack.

Yeah, I'll start pooping out gfx ASAP unless profraine wants to get you a CD title lol

Also, I'm thinking of doing a Rusty Hearts track too, those are boss. Just started recently.

Thanks for the submissions guys! It's cool to see video game music in my stepmania again. Too much anime and beatmania stuff around.

Sounds good. I'm not gonna be strict to be honest, just wanna see some cool video game files and everyone here is basically a good notecharter. I'm just gonna check for basic shit which all you know how to do e.g. sync and generally be accurate. lmao

All reviews will be about the hardest chart, unless I say otherwise. I've played the other charts, just not gonna review them since most people will be playing the hardest or second hardest charts.

Condensed (Pw) [6k]
  • Gonna judge the hard chart as the main, seeing as I'm not good enough to actually rate the oni as a player. Layering is consistent and the multiple charts are a godsend. Oni is a nice challenge as far as I can see and the chart is fun and the song is perfect for solo imo.
Accept

Dance in the Forest (Pw) [6k]
  • I'm not a pro solo player, but I absolutely love chord/quad mash in single and solo. Great difficulty curve and fun song!
Accept

Extend Sky (Diokatsu) [4k]
  • Refraining from judging since it's my own file. I'm gonna touch it up and what not. If there is Touhou stuff submitted aside from this, I'll probably pass on it since too much Touhou is...bleh.
Pending

Ithavoll Building - Lower Floors (Profraine) [4k]
  • Bayonetta! Too be honest, this track is not exactly eventful, but I like the steps. It showcases how stream and freezes can actually be used together. Reminded me of freezes in BB Evolution. Like it and good for the game diversity. Also, cool drum rolls!
Accept

Jungle Japes (yotipo91) [4k/6k(?)]
  • Official judging after I get the solo file, but this is in. Great colored note theory and jacks. Only thing is I would've stepped bursts in other places, but the way you've done it at least add a little more diversity. It's nice to see a file that isn't using constant note smashing to compensate for lackluster steps.
Pending

Over the Northern Mountains (Pw) [6k]
  • Reminded me of dondon's Rescue sim. Great chart, thick layering, fun to mash and fun to look at. Not much to say. Consistant file quality from you.
Accept

These abstract enough, or too abstract, Pw?

Ok so got some subs:

Fuck Jason (Nai) [6k]
  • I'm sorry, but this file is virtually unplayable. Being a little liberal with layering is fine, but you can't just throw down stuff I'm sorry. 32nd trills on my mid and ring might be cool, but they're not consistant and don't always fit the music either. 6key can be nice, but I'll notice the lack of layering so much more.

Reject

POP A PARADE -Part 1- (Profraine) [4k]
  • It might just be me, but this is one of your best files that I've ever played. The polyrhythms and the sheer difficulty makes it fun and it's just a dope and happy as fuck song.

Accept

At Dawn (Profraine) [4k]
  • Fine file, fun and fitting and the freeze usage is pretty distinctive of your files in this pack. Not as good Pop a Parade, but still pretty great.

Accept

Sandopolis Zone Act 2 (Profraine) [4k]
  • Ok, so I do have a problem with this file: can you just remove the freezes in the second half? It'll just change things up since it repeats and make it less repetitive. If done, will definitely accept.

Pending

Traverse Town (Midi vs Nai) [4k]
  • Despite this being a better 6key song than 4key, you should try stepping more 4key. It's easier to fudge the layering if you're new. On that note, I'm gonna accept this, but you need to layer a little bit more consistently. Try going through the file and mapping just the main melody and then make jumps with the drums, background piano, synths, whatever is in the song you're stepping. It's a bit easier and you'll be able to see how the song builds up. Nice colored notes though.

Accept

Frog's Theme (Midi) [6k]
  • Despite layering issues, the song is great and even if it is just a mash at some points, I had fun playing it. This file might be amateurish, but it's a great song and a fun, if not overstepped file. Just fix up those freeze issues and it'll be in.

Ok, ditching the format and stuff since All that matters is the review.

Duel (Diokatsu) [4k]

Heavily layered, colored notes and stuff. Idk what anyone will think of this.
Accept

DUMP SUCCEEDED (INFORMATION) (Midi) [4k]
I see what your were trying to do, but I can't say I enjoyed it. Stream is fine, but the entire song is a little too repetitious and idk, it got a bit weird and a little offsync. I would recommend stepping something a little more unique than just 16ths. colored notes go where they fit and aren't just a way to make stream look cooler :\ On a side note, Pulseman looks good.
Reject

Malevolent Mansion (TheForc3Within) [4k]

Ok, the difficulty in this isn't consistant and you didn't layer a ton of DnB action in the background, but the file has some nice burst usage and it's pretty fun, which is all the counts. You also captured the spirit of the song so that's good.
Accept

Super Mario Bros. (TECHNO Remix) (Elite Ninja) [4k]

Short, but pretty fun! Definitely good and colored notes were used slightly and correctly.
Accept

Victory is Right Before Your Eyes! (Diokatsu) [4k]

Pokemon stuff. Trying to be old school. Whatever.
